Here’s What The Rest of 2014 Holds For Me…

So, July 11th is my last day at work. My last day in New Malden – and my last day spent on the ninth floor of an office block. Sweet, sweet freedom will be mine!

Then what?

Latitude Festival

My first stop on my great adventure is Latitude Festival. I pretty much haven’t shut up about Latitude since approximately one year ago, and then once I found out the Black Keys were playing I’ve been doing my friend’s head in with ‘the L word’. So, makes sense to get on up to Suffolk and check it out. Wellies at the ready.

France

Then I’m going on a little three-night jaunt with four of my best friends to gay Paris. We’re planning on eating all the cheese we can find, knocking back a few bottles of wine in the park and sitting on the Paris Plage having a tres bon time.

England

Next up, a week at my mum and dad’s house. They’re pretty much my best friends so it makes sense to pop round and have them make me dinner and look after me for a week. They live in a cute cottage in Tutbury in Derbyshire and compared to London everything is just so clean and lovely. I have the best sleeps and never want to leave. The photo above is not their house, but the super famous* Tutbury Castle.

Slovakia

Next up, after a hen weekend in Bristol and a blogging festival (#blogstock) in Elstree, I’m off to Bratislava in Slovakia. Really looking forward to checking out the castles and exploring a city I actually don’t know a thing about.

Hungary

Sziget festival

From here I’m going on to Budapest, just a 2-hour train journey away. I’ve been before and I genuinely loved it – the food, the spas, the prices – can’t go wrong! This time round I’ll be going to Sziget Festival with a few friends, as well as checking out what the city has to offer during the day.

Romania

Next up is Romania all on my lonesome. I’m going to be doing a lot of cycling when I’m here, including biking up to Dracula’s Castle to see what’s going on up there. I’ll also be checking out the adventure to be had in Brasov and taking some photos in beautiful Sibiu, as well as culture vulture-ing my way around Bucharest.

Bulgaria

In Bulgaria I’ll be chilling out in Plovdiv and Sofia for a few days and am kind of tempted to go to the beaches too. We’ll see, I still have a few months to decide… this pic of the Devil’s Bridge looks pretty cool too. Might have to check that one out.

Italy

In September I’m going hiking at the Cinque Terre for a few days before meeting my rents in Lake Como for a good old fashioned family holiday. Very excited for this one!

St Lucia

Oh yes, I’ll be going to St Lucia in September to check out the St. James’s Club Morgan Bay Resort & Spa. As well as exhausting everything the resort has to offer, I’ll also be exploring the island to see what mischief I can get up to. Can’t wait to see the drive in volcano!

Central America

And then in October I’m going to Mexico, Guatemala and Belize – but more on that little expedition nearer the time. Too much travel to take just now. My flights are booked though, it’s definitely happening, and I’m sick with excitement…

I love travelling!

  1. Wow, that’s some adventure! GG

  2. This sounds amazing! I’m so jealous of you doing Sziget – it looks fantastic and I’d love to go to Budapest and Romania – such beautiful places!

  3. I am so jealous! My contract is up soon-ish and I would love the opportunity to do something like this with all my new found freedom but unfortunately budget restraints are preventing me (as always!).

I’m definitely going to have to go on a holiday too and also spend some time at my parents house being looked after and doing lots of writing.

Good luck with all your travels, I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Romania as it’s never somewhere I have though of going.

    • Have you ever seen Workaway Eleanor? It’s a really cheap way to travel and you can do some pretty cool stuff. I’m going to work on a project in Guatemala, hopefully. I’ve got a few articles about it on here as I did it a few years ago.

Yay for parents and their writer’s retreats!

  4. I’m so jealous you’re going to see so much of Europe! Can’t wait to read about all the adventures :)

  5. What a fantastic itinerary! Latitude is the best festival, and I’m so excited for you.

I don’t know much Slovakia so I’ll be interested to see how you get on and what you get up to!

Travelling like this is definitely a good move for you (following your recent posts) and very exciting. Have a terrific time!

  6. Hi Vicky,

in case you don’t already know about it, here’s a website (of a friend of mine) about cycling in Romania: http://cyclingromania.ro/
They actually organize the tours, but if you want to go by yourself, you can at least get inspired from their proposed tours or even contact them to ask for some advice.

    Have a great summer!
    Andra

    • Ooo thanks Andra, I’ll definitely take a look at that :) Don’t think I can afford a tour, I’m just going to rent a bike and see where I end up!

  7. Wow, you have some good and exiting stuff planned!

  8. Wow! I’m so super jealous right now, what am amazing way to spend the next few months!

  9. Woah I have serious travel envy you lucky thing! Back to office for me tomorrow morning….

  10. Wow! I’m green with envy. Having two children those carefree days are gone so I can only dream of days gone by when I set-off with backpack to unexplored destinations. I know your summer is jam packed with adventures but you should add Wiltshire into your itinerary! I really haven’t explored much of Eastern Europe so will be interested to hear how you get on. Have a great summer.

    • Hi Sam, ah yes, I like Wiltshire. I’ve been to the Salisbury Cathedral there and would love to go back. I know you have some great festivals too. I’ll be there one day soon!
