My 2017 Festival Summer

Festival season is a’comin!

Very exciting. I’ve got an awesome line up this festival summer, with some of my favourite people. I’ve decided to keep things local and mostly stay in the UK this year – there are just so many good festivals here, and so many more I want to try. I’m hoping to fit in a few random smaller ones as well as the big uns listed below.

Most of my weekends in the summer will be spend at some festival or another. Lucky lucky!

Summer of festivals 2017

I’ve got a Glastonbury ticket! The line up came out this week and it looks amazing – most excited about (in order) The National, Foo Fighters, The XX, Future Islands and Rag n Bone Man. Of course, I’ll have to go and check out a bit of Craig David and Shaggy too. Mr Boombastic etc etc.

Anyway, apart from the big one – my second time there – here are the festivals I’ll be attending this year…

My 2017 Festival Summer

Isle of Wight Festival

11 June, Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight Festival Line up

I’ve got a day ticket for the Sunday – Rod Stewart! – and the rest of the weekend I’ll be checking out the island. The Isle of Wight is only a short boat ride away from me in Southsea and I haven’t been yet. I’ve only ever been twice, for Bestival, so I’m excited to see what else you can do on the island. And to check out a new festival there too.

Eroica Britannia

16 June, Derbyshire Dales

Poster for Eroica Brittania

Eroica Britannia looks awesome. It’s a vintage cycling festival in the Derbyshire Dales where everyone wears tweed and celebrates the best things in life: gin, dancing, food and bikes. All weekend they have music, dancing, crafts and shopping and then on the Sunday there’s the big bike ride.

I’ve opted for the shorter one of three hours through the dales, so we’ll see how well my cycling Vietnam training has held out, seeing as I haven’t even been on a bike since.

Tickets are selling fast as the festival is gaining a cult following. It helps me that this festival is only about 40 minutes from my parents house too.

Glastonbury Festival

21-26 June, Glastonbury

Line up for Glastonbury Festival

Ooo, it’s the big one! I’m going to Glastonbury with Helen from heleninwonderlust, Jen from shegetsaround, Paul and Karen from globalhelpswap and a whole load of other people who don’t have blogs too :). VERY excited. We’re going to make it a whole big glitter fest. Taking glitter is the best way to make friends at festivals, seriously.

I went to Glastonbury in 2011 and have wanted to go back ever since – can’t believe it’s taken me this long!

My First Time at Glastonbury

Henley Festival or Balaton Sound?

5-10 July

One’s in the UK, one’s in Hungary, which one will I go to? Oooo the suspense. Not sure yet but either would suit me just fine. We’ll see what happens!

Latitude Festival (June update: not going, too busy!)

13-16 July, Suffolk

Latitude line up

This one isn’t a definite as I want to find someone to come with me but Latitude remains one of the best festivals I’ve ever been to. I actually went by myself, as the first trip as a freelance blogger and had a brilliant time. I’d love to go back now that I’m in a happier place in life, and with friends. It’s the most magical festival out there!

12 Reasons Why You Have to Go to Latitude Festival

Hare and Hounds

21 July, Chichester, South Downs

Probably the smallest festival I’ll go to – seeing as it’s just at a local pub but I went to this one a few years ago and it was great fun. We got our face painted, chatted to random locals and enjoyed my friend’s friend playing the tunes on the decks. If last time is anything to go by it’s a lot more raucous than a ‘festival in a pub’ sounds.

Portsmouth Kite Festival

12 August

Well, when the festival is just outside your flat you’ve got to go, right? I’ve never been to a kite festival but the photos are always really cool, especially when you see the colourful kites against a blue backdrop. I’m planning on going up the Spinnaker Tower to see it from up high.

Victorious Festival

26/7 August, Southsea

Another festival right outside my house, I’m so excited for Victorious. Stereophonics are headlining the Saturday and then Elbow on the Sunday. Rita Ora is also coming, Jake Bugg and Frank Turner. We’re having a big breakfast party at our flat and then going to head down for the music in the afternoon. When I first moved to Southsea everyone kept telling me how amazing this weekend is here, so I’m probably too excited for it right now.

(June update) AND, I’m now an official Victorious Ambassador thanks to my dedication, so you can expect all the latest updates and advice here.

Bestival (June update, not going anymore!)

7-10 September, Dorset

Line up for Bestial 2017

Bestival has moved to Dorset – I want to go and see the new set up! Haven’t bought my ticket yet but I think this is a great refresh for a festival that’s been around for a while now. I love the whole vibe of Bestival, although I did think it was much better a few years ago than last time I went in 2015. Hopefully they’ll manage to recapture that with the awesome line up they have for 2017.

My Bestival Experience 2015

Festival No 6

7-10 September, Portmeirion, Wales

I’m an official ambassador for Festival No 6 too! Yay.

Loved it there last year and the line up looks even better this time round with Bloc Party, Jarvis Cocker, and James Vincent McMorrow. Plus a whole load of people I’ve never heard of before, which means I get to look around and explore rather than being tied to the main stage. Excited!

That’s a lot of festivals right?

I’ll probably go to a few more little ones in between, especially cute local ones, but that’s the plan so far for my festival summer 2017. Are you going to any?

    Great choice of festivals, Vicky!

For this year, so far we've booked Wilderness and Camp Bestival (first time at both, although been to Bestival many times before). Hope to add more to our festival schedule!

Ah great festivals! Wilderness is a great shout. Might see you there!
