I’m Going to Bilbao BBK Live – Who’s Coming?

Located in the Arrialz mountains in Bilbao, Spain, the BBK has been on my festival wishlist for a while. Bilbao is a really cool place. When I travelled round Europe for four months I popped over for a day from San Sebastian and loved the vibe from the people and just the look of the place too. It’s definitely somewhere that needs more than a day to discover.

Bilbao BBK Live happens on the top of Kobetamendi Hill, surrounded by views over the city of Bilbao and just a 10-minute bus ride from the bright lights. If you come you definitely need to leave a day or two to visit the world famous Guggenheim Museum, and the Fine Arts Museum, as well as make the most of the pintxos here.

Throw in a festival and that’s my kind of long weekend in Europe. So from 9-11 July this year, that’s where you’ll find me.

Top 5 on the line up

Line up for Bilbao BBK

1. Muse
2. Disclosure
3. Counting Crows
4. Future Islands
5. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

And the other 30 acts are pretty good too – think Capital Cities, Ting Tings, Azaelia Banks, Alt-J, Monsters and Men and Mumford and Sons et al.

I’ve only just found out about this band but Bleachers seem pretty awesome too. Love this video!

Bilbao BBK Live quick facts

  • Started in 2006.
  • Now welcomes over 130,000 party people over the 3 days.
  • Has two main stages and two dance tents.
  • There’s also a chillout area, food stalls and a campsite too.
  • Opens at 4pm every day, and closes at 3am every night.
  • Nominated “Best Foreign Festival” at the UK Festival Awards in 2010/11.
  • And “Best Medium-Sized European Festival” at the European Festivals Awards three times.

You can camp, or there are plenty of accommodation options in Bilbao too. I think I’m going to go for the camping – you just feel a bit more in the festival then, I find. Obviously I’m going to want to take my laptop though so I’ve just been checking it out and there are lockers. Woo yeah.

Judging by the photos you’ll have quite a bit of space to spread your tent out – not like the carnage of finding a spot at Glastonbury.

Tickets to Bilbao BBK Live are only £96 for the three days, or £103 with camping. And for this reason, they’re selling out FAST.

    Sounds like a blast!
We were trying to get to Bilboa this trip but it didn't pan out. But now that I know about BBQ Live....maybe Bilbao next July wouldn't be so bad :)
