Plans for My Little (Three-Month!) USA Jaunt…

Just sat at the airport, enjoying my last Pret a Manger latte for three months, and thought I’d write a little update to remind me, and show you, where I’m going.

Austin texas

It’s a long time to be away from home, for me, one of my longest stretches, but it’s going to be awesome, amazing, incredible and brilliant. Yes, all of those things.

I just got absolutely grilled at the check in desk, as in felt sick they interrogated me so much, about why I was going to the USA for three months. ‘Festivals, fun and good times’ didn’t seem to cut it.

  • Austin, Texas (SXSW Festival!)
  • Houston, Texas
  • Lake Charles, Louisiana

  • New Orleans, Louisiana (French Quarter Festival / Literary Festival)
  • Road trip round Louisiana – Lafayette / Baton Rouge / Grand Isle [newly added 3rd April]
  • St Kitts, yes, Caribbean, woohoo!
  • New Orleans, Louisiana (New Orleans Jazz Festival)

  • Orange Beach, Alabama
  • Montgomery, Alabama
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • Memphis, Tennessee
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Minneapolis, Minnesota (TBEX)

And then I fly back to Barcelona in June to hang out with my bro for three weeks, go to SONAR Festival and see my mum and dad. FUN TIMES!

VERY excited. Feel a bit nervous, just because it’s a long time and the check in lady has given me the heeby jeebies, but I need to woman up and go for it. Most places on the list I’ve always wanted to go to, and the others are awesome stops that fit in well with my plans.

Obviously you can follow along on all the social media feeds @VickyFlipFlop.

Let me know if you have any tips or advice for anywhere, apart from the festivals I don’t really have anything set in stone!

Got to go…
time to board the plane!

The food in Chicago is amazing! My soon-to-be sister in law is a chef there and she's introduced me to so many great places to eat. And if the weather's nice biking along the Lake is awesome. Sounds like an incredible trip. I've never been to the South so I'm looking forward to following along with your adventures!

Ha, I heard! One of the many reasons to go. Thanks for the tip – I’ll definitely try that, I love a good bike ride. I can’t wait to see the south – for the food, drink and scenery. Well excited!

Oh man, you are going to have so much fun! I visited a couple of places on your list within the past year and you are absolutely going to have an awesome time. And good news, Pret a Mangers are starting to pop up in the States. ;)

I have yet to register for TBEX in Minneapolis but I'm definitely going. Maybe I'll see you there!

Oo I haven’t registered yet either! Definitely going though. Yes, we will have to meet up! Glad you enjoyed the destinations I’ve chosen. Just had a right effort getting into the US from the visa people – can’t wait to get stuck in!

Argh, I still haven’t seen it! I’ve got a long train journey between now and then so I’ll have to get it on my laptop somehow. I think the next few weeks might be the best next few weeks ever…

Will maybe see you in Bloomington, MN home of Mall of America. I live about 20 minutes from there so definitely will be at TBEX.

I love Minneapolis. I lived and went to grad school there for two years. You'll be there when it's warm and not covered in a thick layer of snow. They have a big theater scene there, the largest Somali population in the US, and the biggest mall in the country with an amusement park in the middle (but locals rarely go there because it's annoying). I would find a lake, enjoy the food (probably cheaper around the U of MInnesota) and talk to locals to find out about upcoming events. Minnesotans are known to be very friendly.

Ah, that's great to hear you're such a staunch supporter of Minneapolis! I don't really know much about the place so thank you very much for the tips. I will definitely seek out that lake :)
