What to Pack When Travelling

Deciding what clothes to take on your travels can be difficult, especially if you’re restricted by a luggage allowance, or if you’re not sure what the weather will be like. The trick is to pack light and choose clothes that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits. If you’re thinking ‘easier said than done’, just follow this handy guide…

1. Denim shorts

You can’t go wrong with denim shorts – this high waisted pair from River Island – they match with pretty much everything and are perfect for the beach, sightseeing or working outdoors. For nights out, you can dress them up with a blouse and heels or wear them with ankle boots and bare legs for a boho festival look.

2. Sarong

Sarongs are the classic bikini cover-up, but they also double up as beach towels, tops and dresses, which makes them a must-have item to take when travelling. This white sarong will go with any colour and look great with your tan.

3. Summer dress

A summery dress will take you from the beach to the bar, plus you can wear it during the day for a spot of sightseeing. Stay on trend with a floral or tropical print – this dress is made from vintage fabric and has a cool retro appeal.

You’ll need a light cardigan for cool evenings and unpredictable weather if you’re travelling for a long period of time. This colour block cardigan from Pure Collection is made from 100% sustainable cashmere and will make a long flight more comfortable if you chose to wear it on the plane.

5. Bikiniwhat to pack travelling

It goes without saying that you’ll need a bikini for the beach. Don’t be tempted to take too many – take a couple of plain bikinis for lounging on the beach and one glamorous bikini for partying with friends. This embellished flower bikini from River Island will look great with jewellery and bejewelled sandals.

6. T-shirt

Great tips, and I love that colour block cardi!

Similar to the sarong, I find maxi skirts are also awesome for travel, as they're appropriate for any situation- you can wear it for boho beach cool or as a cover up in conservative locations.

I took a cobalt blue maxi skirt with me on my travels and loved it. Cobalt goes with almost any colour you can think of, so it fits well with your tips about mix-and-match clothing but also adds a splash of colour rather than your usual black/white/grey.
