A Year of Travel By Myself: It’s Been Sad, Mad, Crazy and Ridiculously Fun

“I have done everything that I wanted and it was more than I thought it would be”
– Beyonce

It’s been a year since I set off travelling. My first step was simple, compared to things to come, I spent it in a field in Suffolk at Latitude Festival. I was by myself though, a chance to toughen up in familiar surroundings.

As anyone who follows along will know my ex boyfriend and I split up in April last year and by July I had got rid of everything but what would fit in my backpack, including my flat, job and bike. On 16th July I set off on an amazing adventure to visit all the places I’d dreamed of from four years of working in travel and a lifetime of wanderlust.

Being dumped wasn’t how I expected the journey to happen, and at times along the way it’s been emotional.

Shit happens

Over the next week, while I embark on my second year of travel adventures starting with frolicking in a field at Bilbao BBK Live Festival in Spain, I want to show you how sometimes the worst things that happen can turn out to be the best.

Remember, shit happens, it’s how you deal with it that counts.

For now here’s a film I put together from the last year of travelling. Sorry about the music, but regular readers will know how much I love the Beyonce.

I’ve had so many adventures I haven’t been able to fit them all in the video, but here are a few highlights of a sad, mad, crazy, fun year of travelling.

    1. Yikes, that’s crazy isn’t it? Yeah I’m so tired right now from after the BBK Live Festival I’ve just been to. Just had to get some medicine as I think I’m sick too. Maybe I need to slow down a bit! Getting old!

    1. Thanks Rachel! It’s definitely been a hectic one. I love that tune – I hope you like my little mixing bit at the start with the Rudimental and James Vincent McMorrow in there? Quite proud of that one 🙂

  3. OMG just think, you’ll be able to watch that in 50 years and be like ‘wow’ I’ve seen some stuff! Great video – quite emosh. 🙂 x
