Honest Alcudia Garden ApartHotel Review (in Majorca)

It was pure luck from in-depth internet searching that led us to Alcudia Garden ApartHotel in Alcudia, Majorca. We enjoyed a relaxing, convenient 4-night holiday, thanks to the fantastic location, friendly staff and excellent facilities.

Review of a hotel in Alcudia

I was looking for a hotel in Majorca with a pool, where the bed formation meant Reggie and I could sleep in separate rooms if I wanted, with 5* food reviews and near a beach. Also, somewhere that was good value.

The Alcudia Garden Aparthotel definitely delivered on all fronts. In fact, I was so impressed, I wanted to tell you all about it.

Alcudia Garden ApartHotel review in short

  • LOCATION – Alcudia Garden ApartHotel is in Port d’Alcudia, just two minutes’ walk from the beach. About 10 minutes on the bus from Alcudia Old Town, and 40 minutes transfer from the airport.
  • GREAT VALUE – You can stay B&B, half board or all inclusive (we did half board).
  • NEGATIVES – I would stay B&B next time as there looked like some great restaurants around, but the buffet was very convenient for toddlers.
  • NUTSHELL REVIEW – Breakfast was brilliant. Entertainment was great. Location was perfect. And the pool, fantastic.
Reggie on the beach

My three-year-old son Reggie and I stayed for four nights in an Annex Palm room, on holiday with my friend and her three-year-old son who stayed in the main complex.

At just 80 metres from the golden sands of Alcúdia Beach, this 3-star aparthotel has a relaxed atmosphere – ideal for both families and couples (and not too many of either!). The property has lush gardens and amazing palm trees dotted around. And there are a few pools to choose from – including four outdoor pools and an indoor heated pool for cooler days.

Accommodation at Alcudia Garden ApartHotel

There are 276 rooms ranging from standard doubles to one-bedroom apartments. We had a one bedroom apartment so I could sleep in the lounge if I felt like it. I didn’t though – love a chance to co sleep with my boy – even if that does mean waking up about five times in a night as he barrages into me wanting to ‘cuddle up’.

I moved the beds against the wall thanks to my never-ending fear of him falling off and we had plenty of space in the room for our stuff.

We also had a spacious bathroom, a kitchenette, a lounge with two sofas and a glorious balcony which had perfect sun at about 6pm for a drink before dinner. I even managed a YouTube yoga class one morning with this for my view.

Our apartment was in the ‘Annex palm’. If you want a quieter holiday, this is the area to be. If you want to be in the midst of the action, and not have to walk so far to your breakfast, then I’d recommend you stay in the main hotel area. I think if you have little kids, or any mobility issues, stay in buildings 1-4. We were in building 8.

On arrival they give you a bracelet which is your key to get in your room. I cannot tell you how wonderful this was for someone like me who is always losing the card in my bag. I need one of these at home!

Food at the hotel

We decided to go half board which also included evening drinks. This was an excellent choice given that the breakfast was amazing so we weren’t actually even that hungry in the day. We’d have a long, leisurely breakfast – enough time for two coffees – and then just have some nuts and fruit for lunch, and enjoy a multi-course dinner in the evening too.

The breakfast and dinner were both buffets, and during our mid May trip neither sitting felt too busy. I liked the fact the hotel seemed to attract a range of clientele (not just families) so it didn’t feel too hectic with children at any point.

We did have lunch at the pool bar one day – a Ceasar salad and chicken nuggets – which was ok. I did have to pour the water out from my salad and almost filled a glass, but Reggie was happy so so was I.

If I went again I’d definitely just go B&B as there was loads of restaurants to try out in the vicinity. I’ve got absolutely no complaints about breakfast, it was great. Dinner was… mediocre. Acceptable for a buffet. Obviously there are pros and cons but I like my dinner a la carte and didn’t feel like I had a delicious evening feed while I was there. You can’t beat the convenience of a buffet with hungry toddlers though.

Keep an eye out for the robot waiters – the kids loved them.

Drinks were available round the pool all day long, and cava was just €3 for a healthy paper glass full from the pool bar. Bargain!

Activities at the hotel

The aparthotel boasts a range of activities all day long. There’s a whole programme of activities for kids, and for the adults. You could also go to the gym, have a sauna or a relaxing massage too. There’s also a variety of sports facilities, including volleyball and beach football pitches.

We joined in with a Mojito making class, a smoothie making class and some evening karaoke.

The hotel has a a character ‘Woogie’ who appears every so often. It was his birthday when we there so they had some celebrations for him. He’s the mascot for their kids entertainment.

If you’re 4-12 you can join the kids club free of charge and join in with their games and activities. Under 4 and you can join in with parents. We did some ‘water bowling’ (firing water pistols at skittles), and an activity where you threw balls joined with string over a rack and won points depending on what colour they landed on. All good fun for the kiddies, and tempted us away from the pools for a bit.

The staff seemed lovely and were encouraging to the kids (and adults) without being annoying.

The best thing about the hotel, and what pretty much guarantees my return one day, are the pools. They had varying depths, with a whole area about a metre high – so perfect for my son. I am very cautious by water, but felt confident in letting him swim and wander about (with arm bands of course).

There was also a super shallow pool for the littlest kiddies that was fun, and then the main pool with its ‘desert island’ in the centre. This had a slope you could walk down into the pool as well as stairs, and was just by the pool bar. My three year old loved them all, and so did I.

Exploring the area

Beyond the hotel, Port d’Alcúdia offers plenty to explore with shops, restaurants and cafes. There’s also a little playground near the tourist information.

Take a stroll to the nearby marina, visit the historic Old Town of Alcúdia (we went to the Sunday market), or venture to the S’Albufera Nature Park for a dose of natural beauty. We went on a boat trip to Alcanada and its lighthouse, and Coll Baix Beach. It went past caves and at one point dropped anchor so we could jump off the back of the boat.

We also took one of the pedalo boats from Alcudia Beach, and took the boys out in the bay. It was easy fun for an hour!

Alcudia ApartHotel

Staying here was one of my favourite hotel experiences with Reggie. It was all just so convenient, and so easy. I’d recommend the Alcudia Garden Aparthotel to anyone, particularly young families.
