1. Trooping the Colour, London

If you fancy a proper bucket-list British day out in June, it’s hard to beat Trooping the Colour in London. Held each year to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday, it’s one of those events that feels uniquely British – full of tradition, military precision and atmosphere.

More than 1,400 guardsmen, horses and musicians take part in the parade through Horse Guards Parade, with crowds lining The Mall to watch the action. There’s military music, immaculate uniforms and usually a dramatic RAF flypast overhead too, to make it one of the best days out in June in England.

What makes this stand out from other June events is the sheer scale and spectacle of it. You’re not just wandering around a festival or food market — you’re watching a huge national occasion that’s been taking place for centuries.

You don’t need seated tickets to enjoy it either. Many people simply turn up early and watch for free from The Mall or St James’s Park.

2. Jane Austen Regency Week, Hampshire

If you’re a fan of Jane Austen, you won’t want to miss the annual Jane Austen Regency Week in the iconic author’s stunning home county of Hampshire.

During this event in June, you can explore the beautiful grounds of Chawton House and learn about its connection to the famous writer. You can also witness historical re-enactments of beloved novels, take part in traditional dance and etiquette lessons, and join in a lively game of cricket.

The Jane Austen Regency Week gives you the chance to immerse yourself in Austen’s world. Plus, family-friendly activities like puppet shows, storytelling and craft workshops make for an amazing day out in June with kids. Reggie and I went up to Chawton House a few months ago for a look around, it was so, so beautiful. Can’t help thinking if I lived like that I could churn out a few bestsellers too.

3. Taste of London Festival, London

Foodies rejoice! Every summer in London, the Taste of London festival takes over Regent’s Park. It’s a gastronomic delight that showcases some of the best cuisines from around the world.

Taste of London showcases over 150 chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants through to award-winning street vendors. As well as sampling the best bites, you can attend cooking demonstrations and talks from world-renowned chefs. I first went to this first festival when it was just starting out and got to try so much food as samples, you practically had to roll me home. Loved it.

4. Stonehenge Summer Solstice, Wiltshire

Witness history in the making at Stonehenge. On the longest day of the year, thousands gather at this ancient site to witness the sun rise over Wiltshire and mark the start of summer.

The Solstice at Stonehenge event has been celebrated for centuries, maybe even millennia, and gives families something truly magical to experience.

It’s one of the biggest Pride events in England – up there with Brighton, London and good old Portsmouth – with a huge parade, live music, drag acts, DJs, food stalls and thousands of people out celebrating together.

The atmosphere is brilliant: colourful, welcoming and genuinely joyful. Whether you go with friends, family or on your own, it’s the sort of event where everyone just seems in a good mood.

If you fancy something a bit different in June, the Broadstairs Dickens Festival is a brilliant excuse for a seaside day out. The whole town gets involved, with people dressed in Victorian costumes, street performances, talks, markets and plenty of nods to Charles Dickens, who loved spending time here.

It’s best for people who enjoy quirky events, history, books or traditional English seaside towns with a bit of character. Even if you’re not massively into Dickens, it’s still fun just wandering around soaking up the atmosphere with an ice cream by the sea.

What makes it memorable is how much the town throws itself into it. One minute you’re watching Victorian dancing in the street, the next you’re eating fish and chips overlooking the coast. It feels properly old-school in the best way.

Spend a sunny day in June at the beach in places like Brighton, Whitby or Portsmouth before the school holiday crowds arrive. Here’s a guide to Southsea Beach – where I live. One of the best things about Southsea Beach is that there’s not loads of shops, galleries and bars lining the beach, like Brighton – meaning you’re not tempted to spend your money!

Just pack a picnic, maybe a few art supplies, and go and enjoy the beautiful coastal panorama. Definitely pack your swimmers – you never know!
