How to Get Tickets to Coachella from the UK

I’ve managed to bag myself four tickets to Coachella in 2014, oh yes.

*Read all about my first time at Coachella!*

This was done with a totally unnecessary amount of research, and there were a whole rollercoaster of emotions involved in the process. It started with curiosity and ended in shaking hands, a racing heart and a little scream of joy.

I don’t know why buying a ticket to Coachella had to be so complicated. As much as I looked I couldn’t find any cohesive advice out there for anyone from the UK wanting a Coachella ticket. All I could find out on the matter was that if you didn’t get a ticket in the Coachella presale you were better off looking at weekend two.

But now, with four tickets to Coachella in hand I like to call myself a pro, and here’s the epic tale of how I managed to get my hands on them.

Guide to getting Coachella tickets for UKers

Coachella Tickets

September to January – try to research how to get a festival ticket – no information on sale dates all I know is I need to sign up to be in with a chance, and it’s pretty competitive. Apparently they go on sale some time at the end of January.

January 4 – sign up so I’m ready and will get any announcement emails. Look around for more information – unsuccessful and only have message boards to go on.

January 9 – wake up to an email saying the line up is out and tickets go on sale 6pm GMT TOMORROW! Facebook friends, share the good news of the Coachella line up and tell them to be ready.

January 10 – feel nervous all day, been dreaming of going for years. 5:45pm comes around and at work. I have two screens so on one I had the countdown screen with a Facebook chat to my other two friends behind it on a tab. On my main screen I had the gateway page into the site and just kept refreshing it.

For some reason I couldn’t log in to the account I created so I wrote out my card details and address into a Word document to have ready.

There was still 30 seconds to go and my hands were shaking, I clicked refresh and it worked! It let me in 30 seconds before they were due to go on sale. I acted fast. I had to wait in the queue for about 5 minutes, talking to my friends as I waited. They were in too.

Tips for Coachella

The screen kept flickering and my heart would jump thinking it was going to the payment screen. Finally it did. The copy and paste document was a brilliant idea. I was all paid and checked out 1 minute later. Relief. I phoned my boyfriend and we waited for the confirmation email to come through. Boom. In my inbox.

Told my friends and they weren’t past the queue yet. Disaster! I got them to fire over their details and had a go for them – I was straight in there. Their account worked although didn’t automatically fill with the payment data they’d already loaded which was annoying. No stopping me though. I quickly got them to send it over and two minutes later, they’d got their confirmations too.

Tickets for Coachella

In the end getting a ticket to Coachella was pretty simple – so long as you are ready and waiting for the whole of January to act on their email.

With international shipping, a car pass between four and the actual ticket the whole thing ended up at xxx each.

If you’re planning to get a Coachella ticket in 2015 here are a few key things to note

  • You can’t change weekends
  • No refunds or exchanges
  • You can only order two per billing address
  • If you want to camp you need to buy a festival pass and a camping pass, but obviously you can’t have a camping pass without a festival pass.

Good luck for Coachella 2015!

    hi there,

did you camp? do you know if there are hotels in the vicinity to stay at? not sure about getting around either as obviously it is a massive place.

do you know when 2015 tickets are likely to go on sale?

    thanks!

Hi Abbie, Presales & pay plan options go on sale on the 4th Friday of May a year before the festival.

General Sales go on sale right after the lineup is announced

hi, whats the best website to use to try to get tickets? Can kids go? my nephew who is 13 has not shut up about this? Also any tips on who to book flights with and such?

    • by Vicky on July 2, 2014  6:55 am Reply

Hi Danielle, you can only use the official site, unless you buy from resellers. You could look on eBay? Teh next sale will be in January but sure they'll be on eBay before then. Yep, kids can go. I booked my flights with Gap Year Travel, just because I work there :)!

    Hi Vicky,
I'd love to know how much the whole lot came to - it says 'xxx' in your sentence about it so don't know if you took it out?

Oh dammit! Errrm, I'm not sure to be honest. At a guess I'd say Coachella Festival cost £400 and then flights on top, and my time in San Fran and New York either side of that.
