This Week I Will Mostly Be at La Tomatina Festival

I’m going to Tomatina with Busabout to check out their 3-day hotel package.

Tomatina looks pretty intense. The streets of the small town of Bunol near Valencia in Spain turn into one big tomato bath. Over 130,000kg of tomatoes are poured into the streets ready for one of the biggest food fights in the world, with 20,000 people ready to go for it. I’m going to be right in the middle of it, hopefully.

Tomatina with Busabout

– so says Busabout

I’ve watched a few videos, seen some photos, and it looks crazy. It only lasts a few hours, starting when one competitor reaches the ham up a greasy pole (explanations and evidence to come), but the after parties go way on into the night.

It’s happened every year since 1945 on the last Wednesday of August. And this year it’s my turn to join in the fun. I’m a bit worried about how much I love tomatoes though. Will I be able to resist having a cheeky taste?

I need to charge the GoPro up, get my hands on a decent pair of goggles and be prepared for a tomato smack in the face – but are the other fighters prepared for me? (tough talk yeahhhh)

OH MY GOD IT WAS AWESOMEPhotos from my Tomatina Trip

Awesome! A couple of years ago I unfortunately missed it during a trip from Valencia down to Malaga, just because I hadn't heard about it. I was so sad when someone told me they are heading there. It sounds like so much fun and I hope you will have a great time! I cannot wait to read about your experience.

Thanks Stef! I'm just reading up on survival tips – I've got that scared yet excited thing going on. Sounds like it's going to be intense! Hope I can get some good pictures.
