Jackery Portable Power Station Review: Jackery Solar Generator 500 + SolarSaga 100 Solar Panel

Are you wondering whether to buy the Jackery Solar Generator 500 for your next camping / campervan trip? Let’s take a look at what’s so good about it, and the Jackery solar panel too.

Outside charger

Don’t know about you, but I’m planning a summer of outdoor adventures for 2022. I’ll have had my baby by then and I like to think we’ll still get out and about, for a few weekends away. One of the things that I already know can make travelling with a baby easier, is having the right equipment.

Even if you’re planning on going off grid, you want to be able to charge your devices for reassurance, information, and entertainment. Especially with a little one around, and definitely as they grow.

Jackery Solar Generator 500

With the Jackery Solar Generator 500 we’re not just talking charging phones though, this beast is a portable, outdoor power station with enough power to charge up fridges, TVs, laptops and air pumps. In fact, and most excitingly for me, it’ll give enough charge to power up one of the luxury inflatable beds. These beds are so comfy by the way – imagine one at a festival with this charger to pump it up!

Jackery 500

Jackery Solar Generator 500 review / comes with:

  • 1 x AC plug socket
  • 3 x USB port
  • 1 x car port plug
  • 2 x DC outputs

The Generator looks good compared to some others I’ve seen, and

There’s a light on the side which helps for those late night charges

It weighs over 13lbs so you wouldn’t really use it for hiking, but it’s a great piece of kit to have in the car or campervan. Wish Helen and I had had it when we went on our wild camping trip to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland!

The Jackery Solar Generator 500 also has a lighting function, when pressed for 2 seconds can be converted to SOS – amazing!

SolarSaga 100 Solar Panel Review

The SolarSaga 100 Solar Panel makes the Jackery Solar Generator even more portable. It harnesses the power of the sun, and comes with a cable to connect it directly into the generator. It can give it a full charge in around 14 hours.

Jackery Solar Panel

If you don’t have that long to wait you can always skip the generator and plug USBs directly into the solar panel for small devices. This is great if you just want to carry one thing when you’re out and about, ready to charge.

Make sure to use the kickstand to adjust the solar panels so they’re directly in the sun’s path for optimal energy.

SolarSaga panel tips

– Don’t let the solar panels get wet (so don’t leave them on the roof while you go out!).

– They won’t charge as well through a window.

The solar generator can technically refer to a solar solution that combines a portable power station with solar panels. It converts sun energy captured by solar panels into electrical power and then stores it in a portable power station for later use. A solar generator is a reliable and clean power source for campers, RVs, or as an emergency backup if your power goes out.
