Review of the himiway bike

I’ve had the Himiway Long Range All Terrain Step Thru electric bike for over a month now. Plenty of time for some tried and tested advice on the machine, and what it can do for you.

In short, the Himiway Long Range All Terrain Step Thru Electric Bike is a great way to have fun and explore the outdoors at the same time. With its powerful motor and fat tyres, you can easily tackle any terrain, from paved roads to dirt trails – as proven on the all terrain coastal roads of Hampshire.

And with its long range, you can go for a good few hours without having to worry about running out of juice.

But this Himiway bike is more than just a powerful machine, it’s also a lot of fun to ride. The step-thru frame makes it easy to get on and off and the comfortable saddle and handlebars make for a smooth ride.

Think beach cruiser meets city bike, but with more power and less effort.

So if you’re looking for a fun and versatile e-bike that can take you on any adventure, this Himiway All Terrain Step Thru electric bike could be a great choice for you.

But, first, let me tell you about my experience, from delivery, to building, to cruising around my local bike pathways.

Delivery of the Himiway Electric Bike

After ordering, the bike was sent via UPS with a tracking number to follow. It was all very easy. The box was very heavy on arrival though – I’d recommend there are two of you to receive!

Building the Himiway Electric Bike

It took me about 90 minutes to put the bike together. The guide said 45 mins, so that was about right for me – someone who takes twice as long as anyone else when it comes to DIY projects. I used this video, the (basic) instructions that came with it, and at times brute force to put the bike together.

Pretty proud of what I achieved!

It wasn’t actually that difficult, just fiddly and tricky for a beginner who doesn’t understand the lingo and has never built a bike before. The bike works fine.

They do recommend that you hire a professional but I wanted to have a go!

First ride of the Himiway Electric Bike

My first ride on the Himiway Electric bike was just to the park near my house. I’ve used electric bikes before, in various glorious locations around the world, but never by myself.

I carefully and conscientiously walked with it until I reached open ground to give it its first go. What d’ya know, it started easily by rotating my hand back like a motorbike – I cycled normally, and off I went.

I felt the acceleration as I went up the small hill, thrilled at the thought of trying a steeper one. I got to the park and amazingly given it was the summer holidays, there was no one there. It took me a minute of two to get to grips with the speed, the functionality and how to get the most from it but gawd, it was FUN when I did!

I went round and round the park, working on getting my speed up as I did. Loved it!

“Designing an elegant, sophisticated and versatile electric bike has always been the ultimate goal of Himiway. The low-step design provides convenience and exceptional comfort while retaining all the excellent performance featured in Cruiser. The 26 inches fat tires offer decent skid resistance and anti-vibration ability. Ride with convenience; Ride with elegance; Ride with us!“

Riding the Himiway Electric Bike

Unfortunately the next two weeks were the August 2023 terrible weather in England weeks. And so, thanks to childcare and work commitments, it was a while before I got out on it again.

Lucky for me there are lots of great paths and trails around here and so plenty of opportunity to try the bike by the beach, along the coastal paths, and the roads and the parks between Portsmouth and Emsworth.

It’s such a smooth and simple ride, and once I’d got it out of my front door – an easy cycle. Having that extra bit of support in cycling was very welcome after over almost two years of barely using my bike (thanks to having my son!).

Review of the Himiway Electric Bike

Design and build quality

The step-thru frame design makes it easier for riders of all ages and differing abilities to mount and dismount. Crafted with high-grade materials, the bike feels sturdy, even on rugged terrains, suggesting a long lifespan and an excellent build (if I do say so myself). It’s equipped with a headlight, taillight, and rack, making it perfect for commuting or touring.

Performance

The long-range battery capacity is impressive. Whether you’re commuting or taking an extended ride in the countryside, this e-bike won’t leave you hanging. The motor provides a consistent and smooth power output, making uphill climbs and headwinds easier to tackle. And the downhills even more fun. It does 35-60 miles on a charge – you can buy a spare battery if you want to go further. I wouldn’t fancy carrying that around though!

All-terrain capability

With puncture-resistant tyres and a reliable suspension system, this bike performs exceptionally on both smooth pavements and the more challenging trails I tried. The traction and stability inspire confidence even in wet and muddy conditions. The Shimano 7-speed drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and front suspension fork make it a very comfortable ride on varying terrain.

Safety

Equipped with bright front and rear lights, the bike ensures visibility during night rides. The responsive brake system offers dependable stopping power, which is crucial for both city commutes and unpredictable off-road conditions. The front light also makes it look pretty cool!

Value for money

Given its features and performance, the bike offers good value for its price point. Its durability and long battery life mean users are likely to save on maintenance and replacement costs in the long run.

Review of the Himiway bike

The weight of the bike unfortunately makes it impossible for me to transport in the car (although carrying the battery separately does make a big difference). I can’t lift it very high. I’d need to use it for places that I can either cycle to from here, or, that I can reach via train.

I’d love to use it on the South Downs Way – that’ll be the next mission!
