What Can You See Scuba Diving in Cancun?

My first scuba dive was in Cancun, Mexico, and since then I’ve dived in Ibiza (not good) and Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef (very good). I’m going to Egypt in September so we’ll see how that goes, but so far Cancun has been my best experience by far.

Please don’t mock my cornrows…

I was a complete beginner and so signed up for a day of diving with Manta Divers in Cancun. My friend Lisa and I started with a two-hour lesson on theory before we even went near the water. We soon got wet and learnt how to swap regulators underwater and he made sure we knew the key hand signals for anyone going underwater.

Not sure what it is, but it’s a-maze-ing!

And then, big moment, we went out on the boat. Lisa bailed as soon as we got out to sea so it turned into a cheap private lesson with just me and the instructor going deep down below. Here are just a few of the amazing creatures you can see when you go scuba diving in Cancun…

Hmmm, now that I look at the photos again maybe scuba diving in Cancun wasn’t the quit ethe incredible underwater paradise I seem to remember. Perhaps watching The Little Mermaid too much has clouded my judgement and memories… but I do recall holding a sea cucumber at one point…

Haha, the Little Mermaid can do that. ;) I love the first picture! I'm surprised you like Cancun better than the Great Barrier Reef - I've never scuba dived there but it's at the top of my list as I've heard the Great Barrier Reef is amazing. What about Cancun made you like it better?

I know it's weird isn't it? When I looked at these photos I realised that it wasn't the tropical paradise I remembered. I think there must be a few unfair variables here :). Cancun was my first time and it was just me and the instructor so he took me around and I got to see loads. In Cairns I was in a big group, but sadly don't have any underwater photos so I only have my memory to go on. Really looking forward to seeing what Egypt is like in September!

That eel trying to eat you is funny haha we always thought of that everytime we encounter those scary yet wonderful creatures. Diving really is blessing because not all people can experience it.
